In the past 4 years approximately 2,000 children have died directly or indirectly due to malnutrition in the Northern region of Chaco and Formosa,Argentina. (1). 

While President Cristina Kirchner gave one of her frequent speeches, and cried over the death of the Syrian boy blaming the Western world, another child was dying of starvation in Chaco. 

His name was Oscar Sanchez. He was 14 years old and weighed only 18 pounds at the time of his death. He was a Qom Indian, a group that many claim is being evicted of their lands and victims of a virtual genocide. The entire population of Qoms has no clean water, no food, and their natural habitat has been destroyed by deforestation in order to plant soy. 

The day after the photos of Oscar were published, the President on her Twitter account (Casa Rosada or Pink House is equivalent to our White House) attributed the death to a complex medical condition, denying the obvious malnutrition. 

In February another Qom child (Nestor Femenia) died of malnutrition and the Governor of Chaco said it was an "isolated case". The death certificates of these children both state "illness" as the cause of death. 

These manipulation of the statistics have two effects: the government can claim there is no malnutrition and take political credit of it. However, as the numbers are distorted, Qom cease to be eligible for welfare. The few precarious clinics in the area used to distribute rations of food, but now that the statistics show they no longer suffer from malnutrition, the assistance program stopped.

Recently President Kirchner removed a statue of Christopher Columbus, donated by the strong Italian community in Argentina, as she consider it a symbol of genocide towards American Indians. Her actions however contradict this gesture, as she condemns the Qom nation to extinction and side instead with the soy producers. In addition she has committed the worst sin: denying their suffering, and even blaming the starvation of Qoms as a "cultural problem".

Another case of symbolic annihilation, which should no surprise anyone, as it has been 7 months that a group of Qoms set up a tent near the Casa Rosada (Pink House, where the President resides) waiting to be received by President Kirchner, who has never responded to the request (2).

The fake tears of the President when she said "I don't want to be like those countries who expelled immigrants and let children die at the beach" contrast with the reality of people like the Qom, who do not matter because they do not vote.   
They do not exist.
